A third-person open world fantasy MMORPG inspired by medieval Europe. In Past Fate we assume the role of a mercenary representing one of the available classes. We explore the world, sail, and engage in naval combat, as well as fight for control of territories.

Icy North Games is an independent Finnish studio from Helsinki, established in 2018. The team, known for projects such as the survival horror Dread of Laughter and the RPG Tuonela, decided to create a full-fledged MMORPG. Past Fate, as this project is titled, was developed in part thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter (after the first fundraising attempt ended in failure, the developers organized a second one, which ultimately succeeded).

Open world

In Past Fate the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game features an open world. It consists of both expanses of land under the open sky and dark dungeons traversed on foot, as well as waters explored aboard ships.

Exploration and combat

As we wander through the fantasy world of Nendhir, we meet its inhabitants and complete missions. Additionally, we visit dungeons, solve the puzzles within them, and overcome the threats lurking there to acquire hidden treasures. We can also engage in other activities that leave our mark on the fate of this land.

Fighting opponents also plays an important role, taking place on solid ground or open waters, where we engage in naval battles (with opportunities to acquire and upgrade increasingly better ships) and perform boarding actions.

Character classes

The exact nature of encounters with enemies, as well as the role we play on the battlefield, is determined by the character development path we choose. The game allows us to become warriors specializing in melee combat, dabble in dark magic, or learn the art of transforming into powerful creatures like trolls. Each character class is equipped with subclasses that determine the equipment used, skills, strengths, and weaknesses.

Mercenaries and naval battles

Complementing all of this is a system that allows us to hire mercenaries and soldiers with various specializations, such as archers, mages, or cannoneers. We can utilize them both on land and at sea. They are especially useful during faction wars over territories. By participating in them, we defend our lands and conquer areas belonging to enemy players. We can develop individual territories to benefit both ourselves and our entire faction.

Story

The action of Past Fate takes place in the fantasy world of Nendhir, where warring factions are fighting for control. The main sides of the conflict are the alliance of Vikings and barbarians known as Valfalk and the pact of kingdoms from central Nendhir, known as Morsath. Additionally, the dark Cult of Voxyx and the powerful dragon Yddrad, residing in the western swamps, are entangled in the war. During the game we take on the role of a mercenary who must play their part in these turbulent events.

Game modes

Past Fate is exclusively a multiplayer game played over the Internet. Players can compete against each other or cooperate (in raids, boss battles and other activities).
