AdHoc Studio is an independent development team, founded by former employees of companies such as Telltale Games, Ubisoft, and Night School Studio. Due to their portfolio, the team focused on preparing games focused on storytelling. Dispatch described here is their first fully original work. It is a hybrid of a narrative adventure game and strategy with a touch of comedy.

Gameplay

In Dispatch we watch the action from various "cinematic" shots.

Dispatcher's job

Our primary duty is to observe the map of contemporary Los Angeles, receive reports and respond to crises by assigning appropriate superheroes to them. The available heroes are differentiated in terms of skills (which we improve over time), but also personality and quirks and problems they face. Additionally, the matter is somewhat complicated by the fact that every choice we make can affect the fate of both ourselves and our team, as well as the entire city.

Relations with colleagues

During breaks from work, we can chat with the superheroes. Thanks to this, over time we get to know our colleagues better. Relationships with them can turn into real friendships, and even something more.

Dispatch review: Feeling the weight of your choices

Dispatch is one of the most charming, engaging, and well-written games of the year. It might be a comedy, but it doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. You must take on the role of a mentor to a team of misfit heroes, all while navigating your own demons, not to mention the actual demon on your team. The character arcs and the team's overall arc are so satisfying and effective. I knew early on that this was a game I would play multiple times to see where different decisions would lead me. AdHoc Studio has instantly made a name for itself with this debut game.

  • Short Episode Length: Users noted that episodes felt short, often leaving them wanting more content and wishing for longer gameplay sessions.

  • Longer Episodes and More Gameplay: Many reviews called for longer episodes with more gameplay elements, including more interactive segments and meaningful choices that would affect the story's trajectory.

Summary
